Hero MotoCorp aims to revamp its product portfolio with these launches, that will include a new scooter and addition of variants to existing models

Hero recently launched the Splendour iSmart 110 at an event in Delhi

Facing tough competition from Japanese auto maker Honda, Hero MotoCorp plans to launch twelve new models (including variants) over the course of next nine months. These new launches will also include an all-new scooter in the 125cc segment, perhaps with the aim to counter Honda's strong grip on this fast-growing space. There are a few reports that call the new launches a way of revamping and upgrading the automaker's product portfolio. Hero MotoCorp aims to benefit from a rise in demand for two-wheelers on the back of factors like the Seventh Pay Commission.

Hero MotoCorp's Chairman Pawan Munjal feels the outlook for two-wheeler makers in India is positive due to a number of factors. At the launch of the Splendor iSmart 110, he said the sales for motorcycles and scooters would go up but the effect would be seen in the second half of 2016.

It is not just reduction in demand but tough competition from Honda that Hero MotoCorp has had to fight off. Honda's Activa scooter has been selling like hot cakes, sol much so that it has become the largest-selling two-wheeler of India for six straight months, edging past Hero's Splendor.
