With BSIV norms coming into action, Royal Enfield has discontinued its carburettor-equipped version of the Himalayan. A new fuel-injected version has been in the pipeline ever since as Royal Enfield was already selling the fuel-injected variant overseas.

It seems that the product is finally set for launch this month, as an enthusiast has spotted the FI version at a dealership in southern India and the photos here are from the same outlet.

Dealer sources have confirmed that the bikes will be available for test rides from next week onwards. They have also started accepting a booking amount of Rs 5,500 for the bike (varies from dealership to dealership), and deliveries will commence from the first week of September.

The fuel-injected version of the bike gets no other mechanical changes apart from the fuel-injection system itself, and its associated sensors. It is also expected to come with ABS as the company is offering the same on the Himalayan sold overseas.

On the cosmetic front, the Himalayan FI seems to get blacked-out handlebar risers and a blacked out fuel lid.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is the only Adventure Tourer available below Rs 2 lakh. It comes with a semi-double cradle frame, tall seat height, long travel suspension and on-off road tyres to match up to the task of handling both on-road and off-road trails.

The bike uses an air-cooled, 411cc, fuel-injected, single that is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Peak power generated is 24.8PS @ 6500rpm, while maximum torque of 32Nm is produced at 4250rpm.

Our Mumbai dealer sources quoted the on-road price to be around Rs 1.92 lakh (on-road), which is Rs 7,000 more than the carburetted version, a fair increase considering the GST hike, addition of fuel-injection.
