The American muscle car is facing the heat from its arch rival, the Chevrolet Camaro

Ford Mustang

Ever since the first-gen Ford Mustang was launched back in 1965, it has garnered a huge fan following across the world. All these years, it has managed to outgun all its competition, such as the Dodge Charger and the Chevrolet Camaro. It was with the sixth-gen Mustang that Ford finally realized that its lovers are spread beyond the borders of the US and, for the first time ever, offered it with an option of a right-hand–drive set-up.

The current-gen (sixth-gen) Mustang was launched in 2015 and, although it carries the same stallion marque on its grille and the boot, car fanatics unanimously agreed that the alluring Mustang rawness was somehow missing. This also shows in its sales figures since, for the first time in two years, the Chevrolet Camaro has managed to outsell the Ford Mustang. Ford’s inventory, The Detroit News reports, stood at 89 days at the end of September 2016, much higher than the 60 days supply which industry eggheads believe is a healthy number. To get the inventory figures under control, Ford has suspended the production of the Mustang in the Flat Rock assembly plant in Michigan from October 10 to 17.

Ford launched the current-gen Mustang in many right-hand–drive markets around the world and India was one of the lucky ones. The India-spec Mustang is powered by a 5.0-litre V-8 TiVCT mill that is tuned to pump out 401PS of power and 515Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the car’s rear wheels through a six-speed auto box. Since it’s a surplus issue that the American carmaker is facing, the current waiting period of four to five months is expected to remain unchanged.
