Ford will launch the top-of-the-line GT variant of the iconic Pony car that sports a fire-breathing V8 engine under its hood

The Mustang finally comes to India

Finally, the day comes when the iconic Mustang lands in India. Yes, you read it right! The Ford Mustang is coming to India and it will be launched tomorrow. Also, the Mustang that comes to India is the top-of-the-line Mustang which sports a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Yes, we do not get the V6 or the EcoBoost Mustangs but the GT variant that puts out 401PS power and 515Nm of torque from its firebreathing V8 engine. This beastly motor has been paired to a six-speed Getrag dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The Mustang will come to India via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route and is expected to cost close to Rs 60 lakh (ex showroom).

Unlike previous years, when the Mustang moved from one design to another, the 2016 model year marks not just a total redesign of the iconic pony car but a new generation of the same. The 2016 model year marks the sixth generation of Mustang and this time around, it junks that archaic live rear axle for an independent rear suspension. This front-engine rear-wheel drive car sports functional features such as selectable driving modes, dual front airbags with side and curtain airbags, automatic projector headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, heated and powered outside rear view mirrors, six-way adjustable driver and passenger seats with power lumbar support for the former. The Mustang GT rides on 255/40 R19 tyres up front and 275/40R19 tyres at the back.

That's not all, though. The Mustang GT has 2+2 seating arrangement and there are a number of features inside the car to back up its GT credentials. Take this for instance - leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, puddle lamps that project the Mustang logo, MyFord Touch 8-inch touchscreen with Sync (Gen 2), push button start/stop, centre console that doubles up as armrest and storage box, ambient lighting, rear fog lamps and lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH).

The Mustang is perhaps the most awaited sports cars in India. The sixth-generation pony car was designed from the factory as a right-hand drive model meant for export to right-hand drive markets. Another little detail about the Mustang that you may not know is that it earned a 5-star rating from the US' National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for front, side and rollover crash protection. For the expected price, the Mustang will not have any direct competitors as its German rivals are more expensive. Be that as it may, 2016 is an exciting year for auto enthusiats in India as they will now get to see the iconic Mustang on Indian roads soon.
