Ford India Rolls out 1,00,000th Engine

Just 14 months since Ford India's new engine plant commenced operations, the company has already rolled out 100,000 units. With the Figo soaring on the sales charts, the benefit has had an obvious trickle down effect to engine production.

Ford India's engine facility in Maraimalainagar, near Chennai, has been busy with activity for the company has managed to roll out 100,000 engine units in just 14 months. The unique engine plant is the first of its kind facility for Ford wherein both petrol and diesel units can be manufactured on the same line.

Micheal Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India adds that the achievement of this milestone in such a short period of time goes to show the increase in demand for Ford products. Further to this, he stated that this world class manufacturing facility stands as testament to offering the highest of quality products for the Indian consumer and hopes that the next 100,000 units will be covered in an even faster time period.

Incidentally, the new engine plant is part of the USD 500 million Dollar investment in Ford India's facility to allow the company to cater to growing Indian demands. The plant is the first Ford facility to feature a flexible production line in terms of engines as the plant is capable and fully equipped to manufacture five Duratech engine variants and one Duratorq diesel engine that do duty in a number of Ford models.  The 40,000 square meter facility is designed to have a maximum manufacturing capacity of 250,000 engine units per year.

Ford India has also been exporting the engine to places such as South Africa and Thailand and is bullish on future prospects.
