The Indian arm of the American carmaker has set itself on a mission to become the first automotive player to introduce a transparency practice on costs incurred for spare parts in India.

Ford Endeavour

Ford has some really good cars on sale today in India. The new Figo and the Figo Aspire are excellent offerings in their respective segments. The EcoSport has been a blockbuster in India in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment. Its bigger sibling, the Endeavour is quite simply the best offering in its segment currently. The iconic Mustang was recently launched in India, a brand that the company has been selling all over the world for many decades. But Ford as a brand has struggled to complement its good range of cars in India with equally good sales numbers as the general consensus in public reeks of high maintenance costs.

To address this issue and build a reliable reputation in the country, Ford India is persistent to bring in transparency on the spare part costs. To make it happen, Ford India's vice-president, Rahul Gautam reportedly said that the company is working towards a mantra we all know as “actions speak louder than words.” To begin with, Ford India has put all the costs of its components up on its website. This, he said, will inject much-needed changes from the ground-up to win the confidence of its potential customers.

Gautam reportedly said, “In our service price promise, we urge customers to go to the website and look up the cost of service, including labour. Customers can compare the price with what the competition offers and see for themselves that Ford is fairly competitive and even less expensive than many known brands.”

Ford is also offering other benefits. Gautam added that a customer can book a service online and if the car has to be kept overnight, there is also a provision to loan a car. He further added, "We have the entire country covered by independent parts distributors. The customer can go to any retailer and buy the part and get the car serviced at a local garage if he feels comfortable doing so."

Ford has been on the rise lately, with the EcoSport playing a crucial part in the story. In the month of July, 2016, Ford India sold 4,000 units of the EcoSport and the company as a whole managed to hit an overall sales figure of 7,076 units. That marks a staggering jump by 62 per cent when compared to the sales figures in the corresponding period last year. This move of infusing transparency for its service line of business will further help the sales curve rise steeper in the coming times.
