It replaces the 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine

  • New petrol engine makes 275PS of power and 455Nm of torque.
  • It also gets a new 10-speed automatic that replaces the 6-speed automatic.
  • Unlikely to reach Indian shores anytime soon.
  • The next iteration of the Endeavour is in the works.

China is one of the few markets where the Ford Endeavour (also known as the Everest) gets a petrol option. Its 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine produced 247PS and 360Nm. And now, the carmaker has replaced that with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine.

This new petrol mill produces 275PS of power and 455Nm of torque. This is around 28PS and 95Nm more than the engine it replaces. Besides, a new 10-speed automatic transmission replaces the 6-speed automatic transmission. 4WD is retained as an optional feature.

Aside from this, Ford is already preparing the next iteration of the Endeavour, with prototypes spied testing. Images reveal redesigned exteriors like a honeycomb mesh grille and split headlamps. Interiors will also undergo some extensive change with expected notable features such as three-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and digital instrument display.

Currently, the India-spec Endeavour is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine developing 170PS of power and 420Nm of torque. It is unlikely to get a petrol engine option anytime soon. But we can expect this to be part of the next-gen Endeavour, which is likely to debut in international markets by 2021 and in India by 2022. Expect a premium over the current Endeavour that retails from Rs. 29.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) onwards. Once launched, it could take on the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, and MG Gloster.
