Force Motors Chennai Plant Opening

With the Make in India campaign going stronger than ever, luxury car makers have been constantly working on increasing localisation of its products. And in that regard, Force Motors is emerging as the leader in making powertrains for European car makers in India. The Pune-based firm already has a deal as per which it makes powertrains for the three-pointed star. Last year, ZigWheels broke the news about Force Motors’ intention of starting a new manufacturing facility in Chennai and predicted a tie-up with BMW. Fast forward to July 2015, Force Motors today inaugurated a new facility in Chennai to strengthen its partnership with BMW.

Just how its manufacturing facility in Chakan is located right next to the Mercedes-Benz plant, the one in Chennai too has been strategically located close to the BMW facility. Following the announcement of the partnership last year, the new Force Motors plant was built in a record time of just 7 months and the first engine rolled off the line earlier this year in January 2015. Force Motors says that they can make around 20,000 engines every year from this manufacturing facility, which is 6,000 more powerplants than the cars produced by BMW annually. Force Motors will produce engines for the BMW 3 Series, 3 GT, 5 series, 7 Series, X1, X3 and the X5 range in this facility.
