The investment for this product expansion is valued over USD 250 million

  • First model will be the facelifted Jeep Compass that will debut on January 7.

  • A 7-seater Compass-based Jeep SUV will launch in India by 2022.

  • The Jeep Wrangler will be locally assembled which should make it more affordable.

  • Jeep will bring back the Grand Cherokee to India in the form of a next-gen locally assembled model.

FCA has kicked off 2021 by announcing some big plans for the Indian market and an investment of over USD 250 million for expansion of its local product lineup. This will include four new locally assembled Jeep models that will be launched in the country by 2022. Here’s more on what’s coming:

Compass 2021

First up is the mid-life refresh of the Compass SUV that will be unveiled on January 7. Pre-launch unofficial bookings are already underway for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Updates will include a revised front fascia, a larger 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel, and a revised climate control knob layout. Expect the SUV to be powered by the existing 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine along with the 170PS 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine.

Expect it to be priced at a premium over the current model’s Rs 16.49 lakh to Rs 27.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) price range. It will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, MG Hector, and Tata Harrier.

Next up, will be a new three-row Jeep SUV that will go on sale in 2022. While it may share its platform with the Compass, this SUV will feature distinct styling elements aside from being longer, wider, and taller than the Compass. Expect a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine than its five-seater counterpart. Prices could start from Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Wrangler (CKD)

Currently, Jeep sells the Wrangler as a full import model with prices ranging from Rs 63.94 lakh to Rs 68.94 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Unlimited and Rubicon variants. The carmaker has now announced that the Wrangler will soon be locally assembled at FCA’s joint venture manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon. This should make the off-roader a more affordable offering in the country.

Next-gen Grand Cherokee (CKD)

Last but not least, Jeep will be bringing back the Grand Cherokee moniker in India as a next-gen model. This will also be a locally assembled model, which should make it more affordable than its predecessor. It is expected to be bigger, more feature loaded, and offer petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. It is likely to go on sale in India after it launches globally later this year.
