Sources reveal that Vimal Sumbly could assume a role in the sales and marketing division of Royal Enfield soon

Vimal Sumbly, the ex-managing director of Triumph Motorcycles India, is likely to join Royal Enfield soon. Although many speculated that he could be headed to BMW Motorrad or Harley-Davidson after his five-year stint with Triumph, a popular automotive publication has reported that he will soon assume a senior role in the Chennai-based bike manufacturer’s sales and marketing division.

The publication’s source was quoted saying, “Vimal Sumbly is heading to Royal Enfield and he will take up the role in the sales and marketing domain. Having worked for Bajaj Auto in the past, and is known for setting up the India operations for UK’s Triumph Motorcycles, Sumbly brings to the table his expertise in driving sales for the premium motorcycle range. Not to forget, he had established Triumph’s foothold in India when Harley-Davidson already had a solid presence in the premium motorcycle category. It could be logically understood that Royal Enfield looks at the strategic hiring of Sumbly just before the rollout of its premium 650cc twins.”

The same source also confirmed that Shaji Koshy, the senior vice-president of sales and marketing, is likely to retire soon and the top management is looking for someone with experience to replace him. Sources close to Royal Enfield have revealed that Sumbly might report to Shaji Koshy, who has been with the brand for 12 years, before eventually replacing him. Royal Enfield could gain a lot from Sumbly’s experience from previous stints at Bajaj Auto and Triumph. However, both Sumbly and Royal Enfield are yet to confirm the news. But we'll be sure to keep you updated. Until then, stay tuned.
