DSK-Benelli officials have confirmed to ZigWheels that the new 302R motorcycle will be launched in the Indian market in December, 2016. The Benelli 302R was supposed to be launched during the festive season but the Italian bikemaker has decided to offer the new bike with ABS. Currently, the motorcycle is undergoing endurance testing and other tests at ARAI which has pushed its launch to the last month of the year. The Benelli 302R is the first full-faired motorcycle from the Italian maker for our two-wheeler market. It was first showcased at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show and made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The sharp and sporty styling of the motorcycle has been designed specifically keeping in mind the desires of youngsters. It gets powered by a 300cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor producing 36PS at 12,000rpm and 27Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. Benelli claims that the 302R has a top speed of 170kmph.
The frame on the new supersports motorcycle is different from the TNT300. The Benelli 302 employs a newly designed trellis frame which is significantly lighter than the older frame and also improves the handling dynamics of the bike. Suspension duties are handled by USD front forks and a monoshock setup at the back, while disc brakes provide anchorage with ABS as standard. We expect the Benelli 302R to be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will compete against the likes of the Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390.
