Italian bike-maker Ducati will soon launch its Asia-specific model, the Monster 795 at the 2012 Auto Expo

The 2012 year will begin on a high note for the Indian bikers as exotic bike-maker from Italy – Ducati will launch its made-for-Asia Monster 795 motorcycle in the country at the 2012 Auto Expo. Previously launched in Malaysia, the Asia-specific model will be made in Ducati’s Thailand facility thus allowing the Italian firm to price it competitively in the Indian market with much lower import duties than importing the motorcycles from Bologna. With the expected pricing in the region of Rs. 5 to 6 lakhs, the Ducati 795 will play a key role in the burgeoning middleweight (600cc) market in India.

To keep the pricing affordable for emerging markets, the strategy adopted by Ducati is efficient part-sharing and churning out an impressive model with minimal investment. The Monster 795 junks the expensive but ultra-gorgeous single-sided swingarm seen on the 796 for a rather conventional yet absolutely functional double sided swingarm. The stunning lightweight 5-spoke wheel rims from the 796 are also replaced by the subtle yet lightweight 3-spoke wheel rims. Essentially, the 795 employs the swingarm and wheels from the lower-spec 696 model but is powered by the 803cc Vee-twin 796 powerplant.

Fighting with existing rivals like the Kawasaki Ninja 650R and the Hyosung GT650 siblings, the Ducati 795 will definitely be a show-stopper like all Ducatis are known to be the world over. The Ducati Monster 795 packs in more muscle than many can handle albeit in a slightly low-spec packaging, which also means that with the price drop, the running costs will also be lesser. This will definitely be one of the most exciting motorcycle launches of the 2012 Auto Expo and it will certainly stir up the action in its segment.
