Though it looks like Ducati took Multistrada 1200 to just a paint shop, a few changes made to crucial components help the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak stand out from its brethren

A few days ago Ducati unveiled the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak edition to commemorate its 6 victories in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race. It also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the race as well as the fact that Ducati is its official partner. While most of the bike remains unchanged in its transformation from the standard Multistrada 1200 to Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak, a few things do stand out. Here, we list the top 5 features of the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak:

Upgraded suspension components

The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak comes with top-of-the-line components from Öhlins both front and back. Up front, it sports fully adjustable shocks which also get anodised treatment. In the back, there is an Öhlins TTX36 monoshock suspension unit, also fully adjustable.

Upgraded Exhaust System

Instead of having two exhaust cans at the back Ducati has opted to give the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak a single exhaust can instead. However, it is no ordinary unit. It is a Ducati Performance unit by Termignoni and it sports a carbon fibre sleeve as well. This, Ducati claims, makes the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak sound better than before.

Upgraded brakes

Another difference between the regular Multistrada 1200 and the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak is in the braking department. On the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak the braking up front is handled by two 330mm discs with Brembo's top-shelf M50 monoblock calipers. The rear unit remains unchanged, however.

Upgraded electronics and electricals

The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak sports full LED headlamps with cornering lights, something the regular Multistrada 1200 misses out on. Also, the onboard electronics package on the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak comes with Bluetooth capability for multimedia systems, another area where the regular Multistrada 1200 lags behind.

Special Livery

The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak sports special Red and White livery with black elements and Ducati red on the chassis. To further make it stand out from a crowd of Multistradas, Ducati has also stamped ‘Pikes Peak’ logos on the bike to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
