Ducati Ends 2016 With Yet Another Global Sales Record

With sales topping 55,451 units, Ducati registered 1.2 percent global sales growth in 2016, selling 642 more bikes than in 2015

Ducati, one of the most popular superbike brands, closed 2016 with its highest ever global sales. The Italian marque posted overall sales of 55,451 units, breaking the previous record of selling 54,809 motorcycles in 2015. So, the company sold 642 more bikes as compared to the previous year, posting a growth of 1.2 percent.

"Ending the year of our 90th anniversary with yet another record is a source of immense pride and satisfaction", commented Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding. "2016 was the seventh consecutive growth year for Ducati, clearly confirming the soundness of the Bologna-based group's strategy and skills."

Talking about the different market reports, the USA remained the biggest market for Ducati, with a total of 8,787 bikes dispatched. The company also repeated its excellent progress in the European markets with Italy (over 20 percent hike), Spain (over 38 percent hike) and Germany (over 8 percent hike), doing especially well. Phenomenal growth of over 120 percent achieved in China and Argentina also recorded 219 percent sales hike.

Thanks to the new Ducati Scrambler Sixty2, the Scrambler brand extended its worldwide success during its second year, delivering over 15,500 bikes. Both the Multistrada and the Hypermotard families enjoyed double-digit growth, up by around 16 per cent compared to 2015. And the new Ducati XDiavel also received an equally warm welcome on the market, with sales topping 5,200 units.

Coming to the Italian company's plans for 2017, Ducati entered in its 91st year with the new motto -- "More than Red - Evolution never stops." While "Red" stands for passion, performance and racing, "More" defines an ever-expanding product range that includes more accessible, differentiated motorcycles and an unprecedented range of services. So, the 2017 range is packed with all-new developments and the evolution has already started with a bunch of new products.

The company has already the launched exclusive 1299 Superleggera that has also been announced for the Indian market recently. The Monster range has been extended with the all new entry-level 797 while the 1200 has been launched with major updates. The adventure-tourer series also received an entry level model, the Multistrada 950, and the Ducati SuperSport has been reborn as an all-new sport-tourer series. The company also extended the Scrambler brand with two new models, the Café Racer and the Desert Sled, and more are expected to come from Ducati during the coming months.
