Datsun, the economical car marque from Nissan, entered India with its Go hatchback, followed by the seven-seater Go+ variant. While both the cars were extremely pocket-friendly, they couldn’t clock the anticipated sales numbers for the Nissan-owned carmaker. In June 2016, Datsun launched the redi-GO hatchback in India and it has been doing good business since then. ComeSeptember 29, 2016, and the Japanese automaker will launch a sporty looking limited edition of the redi-GO and here’s what you can expect from it.
On the outside, based on the picture released by Datsun, expect a blacked-out hexagonal grille with black strips running over the centre of the bonnet and on the lower half of the doors. The wheel covers have also received the black-colour treatment and, on the whole, the car definitely looks eye-catching. In addition, we expect Datsun to add exclusive body paint options for the limited edition.
The company has not released any pictures for the interior trim but we expect Datsun to liven it up a bit, with body-coloured accents on the upholstery and on the plastic panels. Under the hood, the limited edition will be powered by the same motor that does duty in the standard variants of the redi-GO and the Renault Kwid -- a 0.8-litre three-pot petrol engine producing 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The petrol-powered engine is tuned to be one of the most fuel-efficient in India, returning an average of 25.17kmpl (ARAI certified).
Renault, Nissan’s alliance partner in India, recently launched the 1.0-litre variant of its best-selling car, the Kwid, to lure more customers. Datsun seems to have embraced a similar strategy but with a different take on what its Indian consumers want.
