Datsun is all set to launch the redi-GO with a more powerful 1.0-litre engine today. The larger engine will help the redi-GO compete with the more powerful cars in its segment while increasing its appeal.

Thanks to the Datsun redi-GO’s tall-boy design, it offers a lot of space inside even though it is shorter than one of its main rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. Along with uncompromised passenger and luggage space, the compact design also makes the redi-GO a breeze to drive on congested roads.

As compared to the 0.8-litre motor, the new 1.0-litre unit is up on power by 14PS and on torque by 19Nm. 68PS of maximum power and 91Nm of peak power should make the Datsun redi-GO easier to drive in both the city and on the highway. Paired to a five-speed manual transmission, for now, the redi-GO 1.0L has a claimed fuel efficiency (ARAI-certified) of 22.5kmpl.

On the outside, the redi-GO 1.0L is not very distinct from its 0.8L sibling - the only difference is the '1.0' badge on the boot. On the inside, though, the redi-GO 1.0L features an all-black theme with contrast coloured elements which add a bit of premiumness to the car.

Datsun has not hinted at following the footsteps of Renault in offering the redi-GO with an automated-manual transmission (AMT) like the Kwid. That could be the next logical step in Renault-Nissan-Datsun's approach in trying to dethrone the Alto/Alto K10 siblings from their throne.
