932 units of little-hatchback will be inspected for smooth supply of fuel

Datsun redi-GO

Datsun – a subsidiary of Japanese car firm Nissan – makes pocket-friendly cars for markets around the world. In India, Nissan brought the Datsun brand to make a dent in the Maruti- and Hyundai-dominated world of entry level cars in the Rs 2-4 lakh segment. Datsun cars (GO, GO+ and redi-GO) are built in the same factory that makes Renault’s and Nissan’s cars. The car in question here is the cheapest offering from the house of Datsun, the redi-GO, which has gone through the same set of tests as the its sibling, the Renault Kwid, to check the supply of fuel to the engine.

While we learnt yesterday that Renault has initiated a recall for its Kwid hatchbacks that were produced before May 18, 2016, Datsun too issued a recall for its redi-GO hatchbacks that were made till the same date. Both the cars might look different, but they share the same underpinnings, which is why the recall citing the same reason – to check whether the cars need a fuel hose pipe clip to ensure seamless supply of fuel to the engine. Since the redi-GO was launched quite recently – in June 2016 – only 932 units fall under the recall campaign.

Datsun will start notifying its customers and request for appointments to carry out the inspection. The company has said that the entire process of checking and fixing (if required) will be carried out free of cost.

Since its launch earlier this year, Datsun has sold over 14,000 units of the redi-GO. Just like the Kwid, the redi-GO has started to make its presence felt in the Indian auto industry. Recently, the Nissan-owned company launched a Sport edition of the redi-GO with some cosmetic changes, both on the inside and outside, with a price tag of Rs. 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
