Well, the biggest and the baddest endurance rally in the world, the Dakar 2017, has met its destiny with its final results on our table. Both the Indian teams – Hero MotoSports Team Rally and TVS Sherco – have performed exceptionally well, with all of their respective competing riders finishing in the top 50 out of 96 positions!
Joaquim Rodrigues and CS Santosh have finished 10th and 47th, fitly, while Joan Pedrero and Adrien Metge clinched 13th and 22nd positions, respectively (all rankings are overall). As for the winners, it has been a remarkable run for the Dubai-based British rider Sam Sunderland, who has grabbed the top spot with a substantial lead of 32 minutes over the second position holder Matthias Walkner, who was followed by Gerard Farres Guell in third. Interestingly, all the top three riders were straddling a KTM.
Intrigued about the times clocked by each of these? Here’re the overall times along with the positions.
1st) Sam Sunderland (KTM): 32 hours, 6 minutes, 22 seconds
2nd) Matthias Walkner (KTM): 32 hours, 38 minutes, 22 seconds
3rd) Gerard Farres Guell (KTM): 32 hours, 42 minutes, 2 seconds
10th) Joaquim Rodrigues (Hero Speedbrain): 34 hours, 25 minutes, 59 seconds
13th) Joan Pedrero (TVS Sherco): 34 hours, 39 minutes, 8 seconds
22nd) Adrien Metge (TVS Sherco): 36 hours, 25 minutes, 31 seconds
47th) CS Santosh (Hero Speedbrain): 42 hours, 1 minutes, 16 seconds
The Dakar Car Category
Replicating the feat achieved by KTM in the bike category, French manufacturer Peugeot took hold of the top three positions in the car category, with all the three drivers also being French.
Finishing first was Stephane Peterhansel, who took his record seventh win in the car category of Dakar 2017. Besides, he has also been a 6-time winner in the bike category, which makes him the most successful competitor ever and has won him the nickname “Mr Dakar”. Peterhansel (28 hours, 49 minutes, 30 seconds) was followed by Sebastien Loeb in the second position, separated by only 5 minutes and 13 seconds from the former. Cyril Despres clinched the third spot and was separated by 33 minutes and 28 seconds from the winner.
