The competition in the Indian two-wheeler industry is getting fiercer by the month. Hero has maintained its consistency this month as the top two-wheeler manufacturer, dispatching 7,04,562 motorcycles and scooters, both domestically and internationally. However, Hero refused to share the domestic numbers alone. Compared to last year’s total sales figures, the Indian auto major witnessed a growth of 13 per cent. The Manesar-based manufacturer has also announced a small hike in the prices of its products to partially offset the consistently rising input costs, including the prices of commodities, and currency depreciation. While the price increase is up to Rs 500 at ex-showroom level, the exact amount varies state wise from model to model.

Honda sales

Honda is a bit far behind Hero, with a sale of 5,71,020 units last month. Out of this, the total scooter sales alone for this month stand at 3,83,020 units. In the domestic market, Honda has sold 5,35,494 two-wheelers, registering a growth of 29 per cent, compared to the same month last year. Hero seems to be comfortably ahead of Honda, with a difference of around 1.33 lakh units. The Japanese bikemaker commenced the bookings of the 2018 Honda Africa Twin and kick-started the deliveries of the Honda Gold Wing in the same month as well.

Suzuki Bajaj sales

The fight for the third place was won by Bajaj with a total sales count of 3,37,752 units. The Indian bikemaker has witnessed a massive growth in the home turf (86 per cent year on year), dispatching 2,00,949 motorcycles last month. TVS isn’t that far behind Bajaj in total sales, at 3,01,201 units. The Hosur-based company sold 2,46,176 two-wheelers locally last month, which translates to a growth of 7.7 per cent, compared to June 2017.
