  • Citroen likely to unveil its second model for India by mid-September.
  • The production model is likely to be called C3.
  • Leaked images of the scale model show design elements similar to the C5 Aircross.
  • Should come with a large infotainment system, sunroof, and connected car tech.
  • Will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, likely with manual and automatic options.
  • Will be launched in India early next year.

Citroen will likely unveil its second model for India -- probably a Nissan Magnite-rivalling sub-4 metre SUV -- by mid-September 2021. It was initially expected to shed its wraps in May, but was eventually postponed.

The upcoming subcompact SUV, likely to be called C3, will be made in and for India. It will be part of Citroen’s ‘C-Cubed’ (Cool, Comfort, and Clever) program.  So, even though the SUV is manufactured and engineered in India, it’s safe to expect the traits Citroen’s global cars (including the C5 Aircross) are known for, including the cushy ride quality.

Leaked images of the upcoming vehicle’s scale model have given us a fair idea of the design. Like other Citroens, the B-SUV (that’s what the carmaker is calling it right now) will feature funky, modern-day styling. Like the C5 Aircross, this one will get split headlamps, a sleek grille with the ‘Citroen’ logo, and plenty of contrasting colours on the body. The body cladding, roof rails, and skid plates accentuate the ‘SUV’ look and feel.

Considering its hotly contested segment, we expect the SUV to be loaded to the gills with features. We reckon it will get a touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, automatic climate control, cruise control, a sunroof, a branded audio system, and keyless entry with push-button start.

Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.

The C3 will likely be powered by a locally manufactured 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic transmission options. A diesel engine will not be offered.

The upcoming SUV will be launched in India early next year. It will likely be priced from Rs 7 lakh, pitting it directly against the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, and the Hyundai Venue
