It is expected to be launched once the nationwide lockdown has been lifted

  • The base model, W3, has been discontinued.
  • In the BS6 era, the XUV500 is a diesel-manual only SUV.
  • Now priced between Rs 13.18 lakh and Rs 17.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • It is likely to be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk 155 engine as its BS4 predecessor.

The ongoing coronavirus lockdown has delayed Mahindra’s plans of launching its BS6 lineup but sources in dealerships have revealed the BS6 prices of the updated XUV500. We expect Mahindra to launch the three-row mid-size diesel SUV in India soon after the lockdown is lifted. It gets a mild price hike of Rs 28,000 across variants. The XUV500 will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming BS6 Tata Hexa.

Under the bonnet, the XUV500 will likely utilise the existing 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine with mechanical upgrades to meet BS6 emission norms. Currently, it produces 155PS of power and 360Nm of torque. The variable-geometry turbo engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Feature highlights include cruise control, sunroof, Arkamys sound system, static bending headlamps, and Blue Sense connected car tech. The XUV500 protects its occupants with six airbags, ABS, EBD, electronic stability program, hill start assist, and hill descent control.

We hope to see the first BS6 XUV500 models arrive on showroom floors after the government lifts the lockdown. Until the launch of the 7-seater MG Hector, Tata Gravitas, and the 7-seater Hyundai Creta, the XUV500 is the only mid-size SUV in India to offer three rows of seating.
