The new Street Triple 765 could reach showrooms by mid-June

Since its launch in 2007, the Street Triple has been Triumph's best selling middleweight-naked, selling more than 50,000 units worldwide. However, it was getting long in the tooth, having received just a mild update in 2013. The new 2017 version is a bigger, more powerful replacement for the ageing Street Triple.

Now, news has come in that Triumph dealerships across India have started accepting bookings for the new Street Triple. We spoke to a few dealers and they have informed us that the bikes will reach Triumph dealerships by, as early as the second week of June, with deliveries starting by the end of June. The booking amount ranges from Rs. one lakh to two lakhs, varying across dealerships. Also, between the three models - The Street Triple S, Street Triple R and Street Triple RS, it will be the Street Triple S that will come to India first. The Street Triple RS, however, might come by the end of this year.

The new Street Triple might look similar to the outgoing model but the new design looks fresh and tightly packaged.

It is underneath the skin, however, where the main changes lie. The new bike is lighter than the older bike and comes with better mass centralisation made possible by repositioning the exhaust closer to the engine. The new Street Triple S is two kilos lighter than the outgoing 675. The seat height is now 810mm, making it 10mm higher to the current model. Suspension components now see an upgrade from KYB to Showa, with fully adjustable 41mm upside down separate function forks upfront and a semi-adjustable monoshock damper at the rear. Braking components remain the same though, with twin 310mm discs clamped to Nissin 2-piston callipers at the front and a single 220mm disc clamped to a Brembo single piston calliper.

The biggest talking point on the 2017 Street Triple is the larger 765cc, in-line 3-cylinder motor based on the Daytona 675R. The new motor makes 113PS @ 11,250rpm, up from the 106PS on current Street Triple sold abroad, of which India had received a detuned version delivering 79.3PS. This time round though, Triumph India officials have stated that the new 2017 Street Triple S sold in India will be the full-spec version, available internationally as well.

While prices for new Street Triple 765 are yet to be disclosed, we expect it to carry a premium of anywhere between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 over the existing Street Triple's price. Currently, the Street Triple 675 retails at Rs 8.8 lakh on-road Delhi. We expect the 2017 Street Triple 765 to be priced between Rs. 9 lakhs to Rs. 9.25 lakhs.
