The fortune cookie rolled in for Vizag driver Sailesh Bolisetti and his Lotus Sport UK team with his maiden victory in round two of British GT Championship

For Sailesh Bolisetti and his Lotus Sport UK team, Race one was marred by technical issues and all they managed was fifth. However, in Race two Bolisetti lived up to his promise as he finished first. Exploiting the Lotus Evora GT4 to the maximum, Phil Glew took the lead within 30 minutes of the start and Bolisetti took over at the mandatory pit stop and onwards to victory. Technical gremlins struck the second placed Ginetta, forcing its retirement, giving more leeway to Sailesh who crossed the line 27 seconds ahead of the second placed car.

“When Phil handed me the car from lead, the first thought in my mind was to preserve it and try to keep the opposition behind and the car out of barriers. The margin was slim but we managed to turn the car around in pits quicker than our competitors so I had a little more breathing space. The team really deserved this given the tough weekend we had, they were extremely patient and perseverant throughout. To win at a track which we’ve never driven or tested is the cherry on the cake, and it isn’t just any other circuit but a place like Nurburgring which is steeped in motor racing history,” quipped Sailesh.

at Round Two of British GT Championship

While this is the young Indian driver’s most memorable win, his focus remains on the job. According to him, it is a long journey and so there is a lot that needs to be put in. Team-mate Phil Glew said, “Sailesh did a good job during his stint in the car. We know it was a comfortable win for us if Sailesh kept his head cool and drove without making a mistake, which he did.”

The British GT Championship is a sports car racing series that was conceived by the British Racing Drivers Club in 1993. Of late some races have happened outside Britain, but that has in no way affected its heritage. It is one of the most gruelling and anticipated races around the globe.
