Toyota-BMW collaboration to produce the replacement for the Z4 and the much-awaited Supra.

BMW Z4

The second-gen Z4 never tasted success like its predecessor did. The first-gen Z4, launched in 2002, was more of a head-turner with love it or hate it looks but, with the second-gen, BMW softened the looks down to make the car more acceptable to the masses. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by its counterparts such as the brilliant Mercedes-Benz SLK, superb Audi TT and the iconic Porsche Boxter.

BMW Z4

According to BimmerToday, the final Z4 rolled out of the factory floor on August 22, 2016. Rumours about its replacement have been doing the rounds of the Internet for quite a while now. It gained further momentum when BMW collaborated with Japanese carmaker Toyota. Both automotive brands are planning to develop the next-gen sports cars for their stable. The successor to the Z4 will allegedly share its underpinnings with the much-awaited Toyota Supra. While we hope that the Z4 replacement will have the same design recipe of a long-bonnet and a short deck, the Supra could very well be based on the stunning F1-concept that the Japanese firm revealed some time ago.

Toyota F1 Concept

No details about either of the cars have surfaced yet. Toyota was planning to debut a production-ready concept of the F1 by the end of 2016, which we hope is the new Supra. If all goes well, the successor to the BMW Z4 shouldn’t be too far away either.

Prior to this, Toyota had produced a sports car in partnership with its Japanese counterpart Subaru. While the Toyota offering was tagged the GT-86, the Subaru one was christened the BRZ. Toyota also shared the same platform with its subsidiary, Scion, and named it FR-S for specific markets around the world. All three offerings were hard-top coupes and looked remarkably similar. We just hope that BMW and Toyota don’t end up making identical cars with different badges.
