Production of the BMW G 310 R has started at TVS’s Hosur manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Bangalore. This news comes soon after the pricing for the entry-level BMW motorcycle was revealed in the UK market. The G 310 R has been designed and developed by BMW Motorrad in Germany but will be manufactured by TVS Motors in India. For the above purpose both the manufacturers have signed a joint venture and the main reason for producing it in India is to keep the cost low as possible. The G 310 R is also the first offering from BMW Motorrad to be manufactured in India though we are sure it wouldn’t be the last one and BMW will be looking to follow KTM’s footsteps of manufacturing low displacement entry-level bikes in India.

The BMW G 310 R was also spotted last month testing on the Bangalore-Chennai highway and has generated lot of curiosity among Indian two-wheeler buyers. The bike was first showcased to Indian audiences at the 2016 Auto Expo and it is expected to be launched by October, 2016 in India. The styling of the bike is based on modern naked machines with sharp lines and mass forward design language. The riding stance of the bike is upright and comfortable with flat wide handlebar and centre-set footpegs. Powering the BMW G 310 R features a 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The powerplant has been mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the motorcycle weighs 158.5kg. The BMW G 310 R is likely to be priced around Rs 2.2 to 2.5 lakh ex-showroom. It will compete against the KTM 390 Duke, Benelli TNT 300, Mahindra Mojo and the Kawasaki Z250 in India.
