The VS400 name can be seen plastered near the tail end of the bike and it resembles the CS400 concept shown at the 2014 Auto Expo

The VS400 has retained a number of design cues from the CS 400

Remember the Bajaj Pulsar CS400? The bike has been the subject of a lot of rumours, including one that suggests a name change to VS400. Now, a spy image has begun doing rounds online, which shows the entire bike and also confirms its name. If you look closely near the rear seat, right next to the grab handle, you'll see something written in chrome. Closer inspection tells you that it's VS400 written there. At least that much is sorted about the bike for now -- that it's called the VS400. The bike was recently also spotted during a TV commercial shoot in Leh.

The vehicle spotted was black in colour and began its life as the CS400 concept, first shown at the 2014 Auto Expo. While the CS moniker was claimed to stand for Cruiser Sport, rumours suggest the VS in the name stands for Vantage Sports. Bajaj is yet to confirm this bit. Most of the design details that you see in the image are more or less are similar to the ones on the CS 400. The headlamp cluster is similar to the CS400 concept, with LED daytime running lamps and halogen headlight. The alloy wheels are finished in black and sport chrome lining. The suspension duties are being handled by telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the back. The VS400 also sports single disc brakes at both the front and the rear. The spy photo also shows the bike coming with dual-channel ABS, which should come as an option.

A leaked document from ARAI earlier in August said the VS400 will have a 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This engine, derived from KTM 390 bikes, has triple-spark technology and is tuned to make 35PS power at 8,000 rpm. This engine has been paired with a six-speed gearbox. The VS400 is expected to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In that case, it will undercut the Mahindra Mojo and the Royal Enfield Himalayan by a fair margin. Bajaj Auto's MD, Rajiv Bajaj, had said that the VS400 will be launched in the third quarter of 2016. Let's hope this is the case.
