Bajaj Auto first showcased the Pulsar CS400 concept, based on the same platform as the discontinued NS200, at the 2014 Auto Expo. And now, reports indicate that the production version of the bike will bear the brand name “Kratos” along with a slight nomenclature change to “VS400.” Recently, we spotted the bike (heavily camouflaged) being tested on the roads.
Kratos, as per Greek mythology, means the God of Strength, and Bajaj will now be using this mythological name for its premium brand that will be placed above the Pulsar range. The Greek god is also the main character in the acclaimed God of War series of video games from Sony, so younger and internet-savvy bikers will have more to relate to the new bike.
As the all-new Kratos range will be positioned above the Pulsar brand, it is quite obvious that the bike will be getting a premium price tag as well. The brand's first offering, the Bajaj Kratos VS400, will be launched in November this year.
Mechanically, the Bajaj Kratos VS400 will be powered by the 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that currently powers the KTM 390 Duke. The VS400's engine will be coupled to a six-speed gearbox which will churn out 35.49PS of power, as the engine has been tuned as per the cruiser's requirement.
The bike will be featuring a fully digital instrument cluster, monoshock at the rear, ABS (optional), and might also get Bajaj’s signature triple-spark technology. Apart from that, one of the main features is that the VS400 will be the first Indian bike to get a full LED headlight with daytime running lights (DRLs) along with LED tail lamps and indicators. The DRLs on the bike are so bright that we could spot the bike from a far off distance. Moreover, the bike also has a pretty loud exhaust note (more than its Austrian cousin, the 390 Duke), which we could hear even before it passed by us.
Now, as we spoke about the premium pricing, we expect the Bajaj Kratos VS400 to be priced around the Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
