Bajaj Auto rolled out its most powerful two-wheeler offering – Dominar 400 in the Indian two-wheeler market today. The new Bajaj Dominar 400 has been priced at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant. The bike will be offered in two variants and the Dominar 400 with dual-channel ABS will carry a sticker price of Rs 1.50 lakh. The ‘Dominar’ name has been derived from Spanish and it means ‘to excel or exceed in power.’ With the new Dominar 400, Bajaj has created a new family of motorcycles, adding to their existing Pulsar, Discover, Avenger, and V. The Dominar 400 has taken a Bajaj-typical sporty slant to step into booming cruiser market and it is a new family of motorcycles from Bajaj that offers power, comfort usability and affordability with modern technology.

The styling of the Bajaj Dominar is sharp with a mass forward design language. Its lines seem to have been inspired from the stunning Ducati Diavel and the sporty styling will appeal to youngsters especially. The Dominar 400 also has the distinction of being the first bike in its segment to offer full-LED headlights. The new bike will also be the first Bajaj offering to adopt an all-digital instrument console while the tell-tale lights have been mounted on the tank and the switchgear is backlit.
Coming to the heart of the matter, the Dominar 400 is powered by a 373cc, liquid-cooled, 4 valve motor as seen on the KTM 390 Duke. The single-cylinder mill has the patented Bajaj triple spark technology and DTS-i tech and it delivers 35PS at 8,000rpm and 35Nm at 6,500rpm of peak torque. The powerplant has been mated to a 6-speed transmission while the big news is the addition of slipper clutch. Talking about performance, Bajaj claims a top speed of 148kmph and 0-100kmph acceleration time of 8.23 seconds. The fuel tank capacity is 13 litres and Bajaj claims a real world mileage of around 30 to 35kmpl for the power cruiser and it weighs 182kg. The Bajaj Dominar 400 sports a perimeter frame which is derived from the unit seen on the RS and NS 200 models.
The bike employs a telescopic front-fork and a monoshock rear unit for damping while anchorage is provided by disc brake on both ends. The Dominar 400 is also the first Bajaj bike to offer dual-channel ABS as an optional extra. The bike rides on 110/70 R17 radial tyre at front and 150/60 R17 radial tyre at the back. The Bajaj Dominar 400 doesn’t have any real competition with respect to its genre. But when one considers pricing and displacement, its rivals include the Royale Enfield Thunderbird 350, Mahindra Mojo, Honda CBR250R and the UM Renegade Commando.
