Bajaj has named its upcoming and highly anticipated 400cc motorcycle as the ‘Dominar 400’ and will be launching the same on December 15, 2016. Earlier, the bike was expected to be named as ‘Kratos 400,’ and was also popularly called the ‘CS400’ because of the CS400 Concept upon which it is based.

The bike went into production on November 18 and the first batch was rolled off an all-women production line at Bajaj’s Chakan plant. Meanwhile, some of the dealerships have started taking bookings of the bike with a token amount of Rs 1000 or more. The bike could make it to some of the major cities in the next couple of weeks and should be available for display at a select few dealerships.

The CS400 Concept

In its press release, Bajaj has revealed that the name ‘Dominar’ has been derived from the Spanish language and its literal meaning is ‘to excel or exceed in power.’ It certainly fits the panache that the Dominar 400 will offer as the most powerful motorcycle that Bajaj has ever offered.

Attesting to the upcoming launch, Eric Vas, president of Bajaj Auto, said, “We are delighted to announce the name of the most anticipated brand from the Bajaj Auto stable. The Dominar 400 has already created a lot of excitement amongst bikers, which is befitting for what’s going to be one of the most path breaking products in the history of the Indian motorcycle industry.”

The Dominar 400 will carry lot of features

The Dominar 400 is expected to herald a new beginning for the Indian cruising fraternity, which is currently dominated by Royal Enfields. Pricewise, the bike is expected to be around Rs 1.7 lakh, which is quite compelling. Especially when this power cruiser is to be hauled by a KTM 390-derived motor, which is expected to offer enhanced performance.

The motor will use a 6-speed gearbox to channel the power (approximately 35PS) and torque (around 33Nm) to the rear wheel. Additionally, the Dominar 400 is expected offer superior equipment such as an advanced instrument cluster, rear monoshock, front and rear disc brakes with optional ABS, well-cushioned seat, etc.
