  • The new Chetak electric scooter is expected to be priced around around Rs 1.10 lakh - Rs 1.20 lakh.
  • Deliveries will commence this month onwards.
  • Bajaj claims the electric scooter will give a real-world range of 95km.
  • Unlike other electric products, it gets a metal bodywork.

Bajaj is all set to launch its first electric product, the Chetak, tomorrow. The electric scooter will be sold through Bajaj’s Probiking dealerships alongside KTM and soon Husqvarna motorcycles. Bookings for the scooter had already commenced last month and Bajaj will begin deliveries this month onwards.

The Chetak stands apart from other electric two wheelers as it comes with a metal body as opposed to the fibre one on the others. Bajaj has not revealed the scooter’s kerb weight and it would be interesting to see how the extra weight affects performance. It gets premium retro styling and looks more Vespa than Bajaj. The scooter gets LED headlamp, LED tail lamp and LED turn indicators. It gets a digital instrument console that apart from the speed shows the battery level and range. Bajaj has even equipped the scooter with keyless ignition.

The Chetak gets a 4kW electric motor. It gets two ride modes: Eco and Sport as well as a Reverse mode. Bajaj claims the scooter offers a real world range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode.

Like Vespas, the Chetak gets a steel monocoque frame and trailing link front suspension. It has 12-inch MRF Zapper tyres on both ends. Braking is via a front disc and rear drum brake.

Bajaj will sell the Chetak first in Pune followed by electric startup Ather’s home turf, Bengaluru. We expect the Chetak to be priced around around Rs 1.10 lakh - Rs 1.20 lakh after FAME II subsidies. It will be a good retro alternative to the Ather 450 and upcoming 22Kymco iFlow electric scooters.

Every EV product is different.. Lower the price the product technology, quality different. Everything is lithium battery. But charger cost is minimum Rs.8000 for better quality. Battery cost 1kw is 16000. How can a company give at Rs.40000. If so different technology.
Very Expensive and the design isn't also stunning so I think it's a bad deal.
Don't understand why India need EV in two wheeler , better create a or refined existing engine which polute lesser and more efficient. Need to focus on more means of poluting vehicle.

Listen, it's the initial stage where India is into the entry of electric vechiles. It will get cheaper as years go by,what about mobile market when it entered Indian market , from handset to network tariff everything was high, but the scenario today is completely different ,so move on. Everything will change. EV scooters will get cheaper as years move on.
Very very expensive,in India it will be 60 or70 k is affordable.bajaj must rethink about it

Ampere Zeal is just half this price and delivers good range and high in Quality too..
What about the speed...will it run the same speed like the normal petrol scooter...?
Price is much more than the EVs available in market . Metal body is not acceptable now s days , because it needs maintenance . Indian customers always prefer affordable price with more mileage . We don't expect such expensive scooter from at least Bajaj . An old company should produce in very low cost . Any EVs scooters is not acceptable more than 50k and bike 60k , because the EVs technology is very simple only two important parts are battery and motor after that any local cooler company can assemble . Bajaj wants to earn by the name . It is not possible now ,see Kodak is gone missing due to the cheaper technology available in everyone's hand . Bajaj company had monopoly over Indian markets,we had to wait 7/8 yrs the get a scooter after booking.
Very expensive. Might as well go with the hero which costs half the chetak.battery life will almost be same for all however the manufacturers claim otherwise. If EV is this costly, people can still buy normal scooter for 50 to 60K and save the extra 50 to 60k which would be more than enough to fuel the vehicle for 2 to 3 years for a normal commuter. After 3rd year, you will have to reinvest on battery for EV and if same cost is assigned towards fuel, it all works out same. You save ELECTRICITY bill and can ride a petrol vehicle without restrictions of 95 or 85 km per charge
sir very good product but is Max speed please let me now

If you don't understand economics , I can't help it - indians want everything cheap ? When a new technology is launched with less capacity of production of batteries etc , price is going to be high - until there is economics of scale or larger supply chain of components
Very very expensive, if Bajaj keeps range above 1.0k... it should be in between 60k 70k...
Too expensive not worth to buy it
Very expensive. Price should be in between 40-50k to capture the real middle class indian market
Very expensive. Price should be between 50 to 60 thousand to encourage the people to buy it.
If indian govt raise awareness about electric vehicle so it's compulsory the price of toy would be less. It would cost near 65 to 75 in india.
Too expensive to pay for EV ...1.2 Lakhs... goodness it's not worth even 35k...China is giving to their citizens with less affordable price....don't know why Indian companies need triple profit...
Very nice
This scooter available in KTM dealership.

This is India dude! People don't buy a scooter for double the cost of a petrol one. Maybe some guys with excess money may go for it. Plus how do we charge it in multistorey buildings? Leave it unattended for ten minutes and something goes missing!. Last point....if Bajaj(they are business men at the end of the day ) thinks people will buy this overpriced, limited range, non-polluting two wheeler, they are wrong. The battery technology is not perfect in our country, the features do not justify the huge price difference. Ride an Activa and see if this obscenely priced contraption is any different.
Very Expensive Not interested..
