Auto Expo 2020 got off to a rolling start on its first day today. The biennial event, India’s largest such, seemed only mildly affected by the ongoing scare of the Coronavirus. What we missed was seeing many of the delegates from Chinese manufacturers present at the expo. However, that did little to make the day a packed one. We saw everything from launches of brand new cars to hotly anticipated concept car reveals as well as announcements. Here’s a gist, dear enthusiast:

Tata Harrier BS6 + Automatic

Tata Motors took the opportunity of the entire auto media gathering at India Expo Mart to finally launch the BS6-compliant avatar of its 5-seater SUV, the Harrier. Kia Carnival
Kia Motors India has launched the Carnival premium MPV at Auto Expo 2020. The Carnival comes with a host of features, especially in the Limousine variant, packing rear electric sliding doors, entertainment screens and more. Mahindra eKUV100

Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4-Door Coupe
Want a powerful 4 door Grand Tourer? Well, Mercedes Benz has the perfect answer thanks to its GT63 S 4-Door Coupe. Powered by AMG’s traditional 4.0-litre V8 motor, it puts out 639PS and 900Nm of twist to all four wheels. It’s also big on thrills and is officially the fastest four door car around the ‘Ring. Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E

GWM R1
Great Wall Motors EV onslaught at the Expo was spearheaded by the debut of the world’s most affordable EV, the GWM R1. It is a cutesy little hatchback that makes 47PS/125Nm out of a 33kWh battery pack. It also packs some nifty kit. Hear more about it here.
Tata HBX

Maruti Swift Hybrid
Aside from the Futuro-e,Maruti Suzuki gave us a surprise with the unveiling of the Swift Hybrid. First showcased at the 2018 Indonesia Motor Show, it pairs the standard 1.2-litre K12C petrol motor with a 48V mild hybrid system to give it 105PS/148Nm and fuel efficiency of 32kmpl. Kia’s latest kid on the block, the Sonet is finally here. Being a sub-compact SUV, it looks more like a smaller Seltos. Kia will launch the Sonet by the second half of 2020 with prices likely to hover around Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 11.20 lakh bracket. Haval F7
Great Wall Motors long line of unveils at Auto Expo 2020 included the Haval F7 mid-size SUV. It comes with aggressive styling, a host of tech as two petrol engines internationally. The debut of the Haima 8S midsize SUV kicked off the carmaker’s India plans at Auto Expo 2020. It features a sharp design, equipped with modern features and is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol mill that develops 195PS/283Nm.
