BS6-compliant Skoda Rapid TSI Revealed At Auto Expo 2020

The Skoda Rapid BS6 with a TSI heart is set to hit showrooms in April 2020

Skoda Auto India has revealed the BS6-compliant Rapid TSI at Auto Expo 2020. The Rapid BS6, for the first time, utilises a turbo-petrol heart in India. The Rapid TSI will replace the TDI and MPI engines as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India won’t upgrade the latter to meet BS6 norms. The BS6 Skoda Rapid is set to be launched in India in April 2020.

The Rapid TSI comes with a new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine that develops 115PS of power and 200Nm of torque. It is offered with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. While the Rapid TSI is a welcome addition, the brilliant 1.5-litre TDI and 1.6-litre MPI engine will face the axe in the BS6 era. The 1.0-litre TSI is the most powerful engine ever to be plonked in the Rapid. However, it’s not as torquey as the 1.5-litre TDI unit.

The 2020 Skoda Rapid BS6 also features minor cosmetic updates. The Marco Polo edition gets larger 17-inch alloy wheels. Further, the Rapid BS6 also comes in a new Matte concept. It's expected to cost Rs 50,000 more than the standard model.

Prices for the BS6-compliant Rapid will be unveiled at the launch event in April 2020. That said, we expect it to cost more than the current Rapid, which starts from Rs 8.82 lakh (ex-showroom). The Rapid BS6 will lock horns with the 2020 Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, and Volkswagen Vento BS6. Meanwhile, Skoda will launch the next-gen Rapid in 2021. Read more about it here
