An auto show is an ideal platform for automobile manufacturers to showcase their concept cars, the technology they are working on, and their upcoming offerings. While some manufacturers have opted out of the upcoming Paris Motor Show completely, VW-owned Audi isn’t one of them. With recent launches of the new Q7 SUV and the new A4 sedan, the German automaker has released a glimpse of the second-gen Q5.

Built on VW’s MLB Evo platform, the new-gen Q5 will be slightly longer, have more rigid structural dynamics and be lighter in weight compared to the first-gen model. As far as looks are concerned, it will boast the company’s new design language as seen on the recently released new Audi A4 and the not-so-recently-released-but-still-new Q7. Just like the Q5 and Q7 filled gaps in their respective segments earlier and were quite similar, looks wise, the new Q5 will be a trimmed version of the new Q7.

On the inside, the Q5 will share its bits and pieces with the new A4, just like the GLC does with the C-Class for Mercedes-Benz. Audi also hinted at equipping the gadgetry inside the cabin with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the hood, the new Q5 will be announced only with quattro powertrains. Expect a choice between a 2.0-litre TFSI motor churning out 252PS of power or a 3.0-litre TDI mill producing a mere 218PS of power but considerably more torque compared to the smaller gasoline engine. Both engines will come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Audi will later introduce two less powerful but more frugal engines, with a 2.0-litre cubic capacity for the diesel mill and 1.4-litre volume for the petrol variant. With these smaller engines filling the engine bay, it is possible that the Q5 will have a front-wheel--drive powertrain.
