The M9, claimed to be the ‘safest’ scooter, features a driver-assistance system, previously only seen on luxury cars

Home-grown electric mobility startup, Artem Energy Future Limited, has announced the M9 electric scooter for India. Given the Indian traffic scenario, the M9 has been designed with safety as a priority. In fact, it is claimed to be the world’s safest scooter.

It features a driver assistance system which is based on a two-step approach, collision prevention and collision alert. This system provides proximity warnings through a smart helmet and vibration feedback on the handlebars. It also warns if tailgaters are too close. In case of an emergency, you can easily activate Artem’s trademark “EDB” (Electro-Dynamic Braking) system, which essentially reverses traction on the wheel for safer stops, while simultaneously being gentle on the brakes.

Aside from this, the scooter also has a blind-spot warning system and an automatic indicator cancellation feature. Artem also has plans of installing solar-powered charging and battery swapping facilities at petrol pumps.

There’s no mention about the specs of the electric motor that will power this scooter, yet, but it is claimed to do a 0-50kmph dash in 6 seconds, can clock a top speed of 90kmph and has a range of 100km per charge.

The Ahmedabad-based electric company is certainly heading in the right direction, but considering the niche market and the slew of features the M9 packs, we expect it to be an expensive proposition.
