Marquez now leads the championship by 52 points over his closest rival Rossi

Marc Marquez wins AragonGP

The 23-year old Spaniard, Marc Marquez, shone in the Aragon GP with the MotoGP series seeing eight different winners in the last eight races. With this victory, Marquez has added nine points to extend his lead by a total of 52-points over his closest rival, Valentino Rossi. Marquez dropped to the fifth spot due to an early mistake at the onset. However, displaying real mettle, he quickly recovered from it and climbed positions till he overtook race leader Rossi with 12 laps to go. Beyond this point, Marquez kept on extending his lead all the way to the finish line.

Speaking of the second position, Lorenzo grabbed it unexpectedly when Rossi went wider with two laps to go in the race. Consequently, Rossi had to settle for third. Consequently, his chances of closing up on Marquez and winning the championship are now quite slim.

Further lower down the order, Suzuki’s rider Maverick Vinales finished fourth. Vinales originally raced in the first place after Marquez dropped to the fifth position, despite starting on pole position. However, Vinales wasn’t able to keep the same early pace in the rest of the race.

British racer, Cal Crutchlow, finished in the fifth position astride his LCR Honda. About his performance, he commented: “fifth not bad, but we wanted more.” Whereas, the sixth spot was taken up by previous race’s winner Dani Pedrosa.

Aleix Espargaro finished seventh, while his brother, Pol Espargaro, followed him on eighth.

Nicky Hayden, who made his comeback to MotoGP, finished fourteenth, replacing injured Jack Miller. For the unversed, Hayden is the 2006 MotoGP world champion and an ace motorcycle racer. He also competes in the World Superbike Championship.

The next round of the MotoGP is slated to take place in Japan, so do hang around for the updates.
