Aprilia SR 15

Launch Date:

The Aprilia SR 150 has garnered lot of curiosity among Indian two-wheeler enthusiasts since the time it was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Italian scooter will be officially launched in India in August, 2016. It will be manufactured at Piaggio’s production facility in Baramati, Maharashtra alongside the Vespa range of scooters.

Booking & Purchase:

Piaggio which is the parent company for Aprilia announced that booking for the SR 150 will commence soon. We expect it to start by end of July or early August across India and booking amount will be around Rs 3,000 to 5,000. The Aprilia SR 150 will go on sale via the flagship Motoplex showrooms across India. Also it is expected that it will be offered in Vespa dealerships as both the brands are under the same parent company.

Pricing & Rivals:

Aprilia surprised one and all when it announced the pricing for the 150cc scooter. The Aprilia SR 150 will retail for Rs 65,000 ex-showroom, the above pricing though is introductory. Aprilia has been able to price the SR 150 so aggressively because it is manufactured in India and the fact that the scooter employs plastic panels as opposed to the full metal construction of Vespa scooters. As of such, the Aprilia SR 150 doesn’t have any direct rivals but with respect to displacement, the Vespa 150 is its nearest competitor. In terms of styling, the SR 150 will go against the Honda Dio and the Yamaha Ray ZR.

Power:

Aprilia hasn’t divulged technical specifications for the SR 150. But it is expected that the scooter will share its heart with the Vespa 150 scooter. The 154.4cc displacement 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder motor is good enough to generate 12PS of power and 11Nm of torque. Power will be transferred via a CVT gearbox. Given the fact that the SR 150 will be considerably lighter than the Vespa 150 we can expect brisk performance. Mileage should be in the range of 40-45kmpl.

Features:

The Aprilia SR 150 will feature an analogue twin-pod instrument console which looks good. The SR 150 also employs 14-inch dia front wheel as opposed to 12-inch wheels which is the norm of the segment. The large dia wheels should endow the scooter with lively handling dynamics. The scooter runs on 120/70 section tyres on both ends while braking is done by disc brake at front and a drum unit does duty at rear. The Aprilia SR 150 has a fuel tank capacity of 7 litres while seat height is 775mm and employs telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the back to handle suspension responsibility.
