The new Aprilia RS-GP is an all-new machine developed ground up by the Italian bikemaker and this should make the 2016 MotoGP season an interesting affair with five factory teams

Aprilia unveiled its 2016 MotoGP challenger in the form of the new RS-GP MotoGP motorcycle. What makes the new motorcycle important for the Italian two-wheeler giant is the fact it’s first completely ground up premiere class machine from them. The 2015 Aprilia MotoGP bike was derived from the superbike-based machine which had limited its chance in really rivalling its well established European and Japanese rivals. Its best result was 10th position in the 2015 season and the Noale based manufacturer will be looking forward to bettering that in the 2016 edition of MotoGP.

Speaking about the bike, Roberto Colaninno, CEO and Managing Director of the Piaggio Group said, “From a Group strategy point of view, Aprilia Racing is not just the Aprilia racing team: it is the most advanced technological experimentation and development platform for the entire Piaggio Group from which all of our products and brands benefit. In fact, the technology developed for racing operations is not intended only for racing, but it also serves the purpose of testing innovative solutions that will then be applied to road-legal products, from supersport bikes all the way to scooters, with the end goal of improving our products in terms of performance, safety and the ability to provide our customers with riding pleasure and fun”.

Powering the bike will be the familiar V4 format powerplant with a rumoured counter-rotating crankshaft. Further detail about the bike will be shared in the near future. The new Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP will be piloted by Stefan Bradl and Alvaro Bautista in the 2016 season.
