Introduced in its latest avatar, the SUV now comes with both petrol and diesel engine options

New Toyota Fortuner launch

The wait is finally over as Toyota has launched the much-awaited all-new Fortuner in India. Now available in both petrol and diesel engine options, the base petrol variant starts at Rs 25.92 lakh and goes up to Rs 31.12 lakh for the top-spec diesel variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Fortuner is being offered in six variants depending on a petrol or a diesel mill, automatic or manual transmission and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive-type.

Now in its second generation, the new Fortuner comes with a fresh and compelling design that is practical yet tough. It gets a large slanted grille framed by thick chrome side that extends towards the new, sleek and aggressive LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps. The new bumper with deeply recessed fog lamps along with chrome accents accentuates the overall presence of the SUV. The bold character of the Fortuner continues across the length of the vehicle with chrome inserts running along its belt-line. At the back, the new Fortuner comes with matching sleek LED tail lamps with a bold chrome strip in-between them.

Moving to the insides, the interiors have been revamped as well. Toyota has given the new Fortuner a similar treatment like the recently launched Innova Crysta with features such as the leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and automatic climate control to name a few.

Under the hood, the new Fortuner is powered by the same 2.8-litre diesel motor and a 2.7-litre petrol mill that also power the Innova Crysta. Toyota has tweaked the engine to better suit the characteristics of the SUV. The diesel motor produces 177PS of power and 450Nm of peak torque and comes mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The petrol, on the other hand, is capable of producing 166PS of max power and 245Nm of peak torque, and comes coupled to a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed auto box.

On the competition front, the all-new Toyota Fortuner goes up against the likes of the Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
