The new generation Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire has been due for quite some time now. It has already been spotted testing under heavy camouflage a number of times but, the shy mistress has finally been revealed. The all-new Swift DZire was finally spotted testing undisguised in India. This production-ready model reveals many major changes to the design of the car. Also, the Swift moniker might be dropped altogether as the DZire won't be aesthetically identical to the next-gen Swift, which will be launched next year. The new DZire is expected to cost a premium of up to Rs 60,000 over the current sedan.
When the DZire was chopped to fit under the four-metre rule, its curvy design made way for a rather boxy shape. However, Maruti seems to have resolved this with the new DZire and the design now looks much more fluent. The roof now gets a more rounded shape with the C-pillar now being more slant and seamlessly flowing into the boot. However, the shape of the bonnet largely remains the same and the rear is also flat. But the overall side appeal has become more subtle.
At the rear, the taillight cluster is also brand new. It features LEDs and the chrome bar has been moved up for a sleeker look. At the front, it is expected to get a more aggressive grille design while retaining a similar headlamp cluster with projector headlamps.
The Interiors of the car have not been revealed yet, but expect a similar layout with the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of engines, Maruti will continue using the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel engines. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor produces 84.3PS of power and 114Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-Speed Manual or an optional four-speed automatic transmission and returns a mileage of 20.9kmpl (MT) and 18.5kmpl (AT). The diesel unit is a 1.3-litre DDiS motor which produces 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque. It comes mated to a five-Speed Manual or an optional five-speed automatic transmission, both of which return a mileage of 26.59kmpl.
Expect the all-new DZire to be launched later in the second half of this year, followed by the all-new Swift early next year.
