All-New Euro-Spec Honda Civic Hatchback Unveiled

Honda has unveiled the European version of the next generation Civic hatchback via an internet reveal. Notably, the Civic hatchback’s American version debuted about a month ago, giving us a fair idea of the car’s aesthetics. The Euro-spec car will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The car will get an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged inline three-cylinder petrol motor which will produce around 129PS of power. There’ll also be a 1.5-litre 182PS turbo petrol on offer in the higher sportier trim. As opposed to the US-spec Civic hatchback, the European version will also get a 1.6-litre diesel motor to cater to customers looking for a higher mileage figure.

As compared to the current generation of the Civic hatchback, the new car has grown in size significantly, all the while losing 16kg of weight. Thanks to the new platform, which is not only lighter but is more than 50 per cent torsionally stiffer than the current car, no doubt it is safer as well.

The car certainly is a major design step up in terms of exterior and interior design. It gets a longer and more aggressive nose than the current Civic, has a slew of brawny lines and prominent surface bulges, which lends the whole car a powerful stance.

On the inside, the Civic will get the second generation Honda Connect system and will also support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car will miss out on the flexible ‘Magic Seats’ this time around in exchange for the routine 60:40 split rear seats -- available with all of its competition. Courtesy the increased exterior dimensions – as it is 130mm longer, 30mm wider – the interiors are said to be more spacious than the current car, especially at the back. However, the boot space, with the rear seats standing, is identical to the current car at 478-litres.

But, the growing demand for diesel cars in the country forced buyers to maintain distance with the beloved petrol Civic and it was ultimately discontinued in 2012.
