The updated E63 gets new design elements and features in sync with the standard model

Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off the facelifted 2021 E63 just days after the reveal of its arch rival, the updated BMW M5. The AMG E63 is offered in both sedan and estate body styles and now features a design refresh and more tech on board.

How Do You Differentiate It From The Refreshed E-Class?

The main distinguishing design element is Mercedes-AMG’s Panamericana grille which now makes its way to the E63. Keen AMG fans will notice the new bumpers with aggressive air intakes. Other differentiating bits include the flared wheel arches which are nicely filled by the 20-inch forged alloy wheels and the revised rear bumpers which retain AMG’s quad-exhaust tips. Sweet!

Any Updates On The Inside?

Apart from the new chunky 3-spoke steering wheel, which now features an AMG knob to control various features, nothing much has changed in terms of design. But what’s new is the infotainment system OS featuring Mercedes’ brilliant MBUX. Both the screens continue to utilise an AMG-specific user interface.

Unfortunately, nope. Mercedes-AMG’s mighty 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine continues to develop 571PS/750Nm in the standard model and a whopping 612PS/850Nm in the bonkers S model. All that force is transferred to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 9-speed automatic transmission.

Pedal to the metal, the E63S does the 0-100kmph run in 3.4 second, a fraction of a second faster than the standard car. Press on and the E63S hits to an electronically limited top speed of 300kmph while the standard maxes out at 250kmph.

What About Driver Aids And Fun?

You get plenty of it! For starters, there is a new ‘Race’ driving mode which sharpens various parameters of the car for a faster and more agile driving experience. You can also switch Mercedes’ AWD to rear-wheel-drive mode and let the E63’s tail slip out for added fun in the twisties. And to top things, there is a drift mode which allows you to do controlled drifts by letting the car alter the power between the front and rear axles. Perfect for newbies who want to have some fun then!

Is It Coming To India?

We hope the refreshed E63 does come to India considering Mercedes’ aggressive plans for the Indian market. Expect it to reach here by the latter half of 2021 with prices starting around Rs 1.6 crore (ex-showroom). The E63S will lock horns with the BMW M5 and the Audi RS6 Avant.
