Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-in Hybrid: Roam Around Nature Whisper Quiet And Pollution Free!

For the first time, Jeep’s iconic SUV is offered with a clean plug-in hybrid powertrain

  • Wrangler hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two electric motors.
  • It’s capable of driving in pure electric mode up to 40km.
  • This is the first clean Jeep to feature a Trail Rated badge.
  • Feature plenty of blue design elements to denote it’s the cleaner variant.

This is the Wrangler 4xe, the hardcore Jeep off-roader that aims to save mother earth with its new plug-in hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine to twin electric motors. Total system output is rated at 375PS and 637Nm and an 8-speed automatic gearbox is the only transmission choice. A 17kWh battery pack is present under the second row to help you drive in pure electric mode up to 40km while combined fuel efficiency stands at 21.26kmpl.

As with any hybrid model, the Wrangler comes with various driving modes. It can be driven in pure electric mode, a mix of ICE and electric or an e-Save mode. The last one reserves a particular amount of charge so that you can drive in areas that can be driven in pure EV mode only. Perfect for those looking to explore the surroundings with less noise and enjoy mother nature to its fullest.

Naturally, this being a Wrangler, it drives all four wheels and bears that prestigious Trail Rated badge, meaning it’s a hardcore off-roader. Off-road specific features include a two-speed transfer case and a fully articulating suspension while water wading capability is rated at 762mm. But if you intend to use the Wrangler on-road, you’ll be happy to know that it does 0-96kmph in 6 seconds.

What remains unchanged in the Wrangler 4xe is its iconic Jeep design. But how will you know that you’re trailing the greener Wrangler? Look out for blue embellishments on the wheels, front bumper and the blue colour Trail Rated and 4xe badge, voila, it’s the Wrangler 4xe. There’s also a big 4xe badge on the hood while the ‘Rubicon’ graphics on the hood are also finished in…. Blue!

Step inside and you’ll notice that the dashboard layout remains similar to the standard JL series Wrangler. However, the blue theme has been carried forward in the stitching on the dashboard, door pads and seat upholstery.

The Wrangler 4xe will go on sale in the United States, China and Europe in early 2021. While its India launch remains to be confirmed, we hope Jeep imports a handful of them to satisfy the Wrangler enthusiast in the country. Will you buy this green Jeep or the traditional ICE variants of the Wrangler? Let us know in the comments below.
