The current generation of the Skoda Octavia was launched in 2013 in India and received a facelift in 2017. And now, the brand has announced that the long-awaited 2020 Skoda Octavia will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show to be held in September 2019.

According to spy shots and renderings, the 2020 Skoda Octavia will be based on VW’s MQB platform and will have more sedan-like look. The international version of the Octavia also comes with a station wagon body style.

Exterior shots reveal a similar design direction to the Skoda Scala and Kamiq. At the front, it looks like Skoda will ditch the split-headlight configuration from the previous-gen Octavia. The headlights will blend with a wider front grille. The new Octavia will also get LED lights all around and a Matrix LED headlamp like the upcoming Skoda Superb facelift. At the rear, the Skoda logo badge is likely to be replaced with ‘Skoda’ insignia across the tailgate.

On the inside, the 2020 Octavia is expected to get better upholstery and materials compared to its predecessor. Its dashboard is expected to get a revised layout with features like voice control and head-up display to be added to the mix. The new Octavia is also expected to get an updated version of its Virtual Cockpit, which is available in the current top-spec version of the Octavia among other features.

Under the hood, the international-spec Octavia will come with multiple petrol and diesel options. In India however, the next-gen Octavia could get a 48V mild-hybrid option along with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. The current 2.0-litre diesel engine might be offered with revisions to comply with BS6 norms in 2020.

The next-gen Octavia is expected to reach Indian shores by the first quarter of 2020. It will rekindle its rivalry with the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra. The current-gen Octavia is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 27.00 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
