The new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will produce 156PS and 254Nm and will be the most powerful unit in its segment

  • It will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and MG Hector.
  • Powered by a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine and X-Tronic CVT.
  • The 1.5-litre diesel engine could soon be discontinued

The Nissan Kicks, though an extremely capable SUV, has been underperforming in the Indian market. In a bid to give it a fresh lease of life, the Japanese carmaker will soon introduce the 2020 Kicks with a new turbo-petrol engine. This announcement comes just a day after sibling brand Datsun teased a facelift for the redi-GO hatchback. It’s likely that this could be the only powertrain option for the Kicks as the Renault-Nissan Group has discontinued the 110PS 1.5-litre diesel engine in India due to the introduction of BS6 emission norms.

The Nissan Kicks will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 156PS and 254Nm. It will feature the new X-Tronic CVT automatic transmission which features an 8-step M mode. If this seems familiar, it's probably because the powertrain made its debut in the Renault Duster Turbo at Auto Expo 2020.

Apart from the mechanical update, the Nissan Kicks Turbo looks largely similar to the standard model. It comes with the same elegant design and a well appointed interior.

Nissan has announced that the new Kicks will be launched in India soon. With the underperforming SUV facing fierce competition from its rivals, the new updates could up the game for the Kicks. The Kicks rivals the Renault Captur, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta 2020 and MG Hector.
