BMW is all set to launch the seventh generation G20 3 Series in the next couple of days in India. In all honesty, we’ve been waiting for the new 3 Series since ages as other markets received the sedan back in 2018. While we wait for the 3, BMW is preparing to finally update the 7-year old 4 Series, which will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
BMW introduced the 4 Series in 2013 as a coupe iteration of the 3 Series. The upcoming coupe has been spied a couple of times in and around Nurburgring Nordschleife and various reports hint that BMW might debut the 4 Series coupe’s concept version at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The concept will also showcase new design innovations that will be carried over to the upcoming M3/M4. The new 4 Series will feature a larger kidney grille and various other design cues to differentiate it from its sedan counterpart. Insights on the changes are limited thanks to BMW’s strong camouflage game.
While most of the technical information is still under wraps, it is expected to carry on the 430i and M440i powertrain options, followed by the M4 of course. The cabin and other features are likely to be shared with the G20 3 Series. The 430i currently uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit that produces 248PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The more powerful 440i with the 3.0-litre inline-six produces 320PS and 447Nm of torque. The upcoming M4, meanwhile, will use a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine good for 473PS of power and will be offered with three-pedals!
The Frankfurt Motor Show will take place from September 12-22, so stay tuned to Zigwheels for more updates from the show.
