According to the leaked information, the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R makes 1.3PS less power and is 2kg heavier than its predecessor

Kawasaki Ninja ZX 6R

Launched way back in 1995, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R has been one of the oldest moniker in the Japanese bikemaker’s portfolio. Over the years, it has received a number of updates to fend off rivalry from Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. For 2019, the Ninja ZX-6R reportedly sees a minor drop in power in favour of cleaner emissions. While the engine capacity is said to remain unchanged with a 636cc, inline four, liquid-cooled motor, a peak power of 129.7PS arrives at 13,500rpm. This makes the new motorcycle 1.3PS less powerful than the current-gen bike with peak power arriving at the same rpm. The engine will purportedly sit inside the same aluminium perimeter-type frame as the 2018 model.

The two-way oxidising catalytic converter is said to have been replaced by a three-way closed loop unit to comply with future European emission norms. As a result, the kerb weight now stands at 196kg, a bump up of 2kg. However, reports suggest that Kawasaki may have changed the gearing to make the motorcycle quicker than its predecessor despite the added heft.

Coming to the dimensions, the current generation bike is 2015mm long, 706mm wide, 1115mm high, and has a wheelbase of 1394mm. On the other hand, the 2019 model is expected to be 60mm shorter, 5mm wider, 15mm closer to the ground, indicating a redesigned bodywork. The motorcycle is said to be inspired by the Ninja H2, on the design front, and may be reminiscent of the new Kawasaki Ninja 400 too.

We expect the motorcycle to be unveiled at either the 2018 Tokyo Motor Show or at this year’s EICMA. The bike will compete with the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R6, Suzuki GSX-R600 and Honda CBR600RR, names that we would love to see in India.
