Scheduled to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the hatchback will feature sharper styling cues, just like the new X-Trail SUV

Nissan Micra Teaser

Nissan has been producing the Micra in one form or the other since 1982. Since then, the Japanese carmaker has worked through four generations of the hatchback and none of them was exactly pleasing to the eye. With the new Micra, however, the company is set to mend the chink in its armour by adopting a sharper design language, just as it did with the new X-Trail SUV.

After the new Micra was spotted testing a few months ago, Nissan has now released the first teaser images of the car which will officially debut in the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Adopting aggressive headlamp styling by ditching the cutesy oval-shaped ones is a much-needed change in the new Micra. Spy shots that have been doing the rounds of the Internet reveal that the new budget offering from Nissan will have a bigger but sporty body and not the conventional boxy looks. Things like a rear-spoiler and hidden rear-door handles

Under the hood, the Japanese automaker will equip the car with a range of fuel-efficient three or four-pot units. With the option to choose between petrol and diesel powerplants, we expect Nissan to mate both the engines to a manual or a CVT (continuously variable transmission) gearbox. The new model is likely to ride on a new platform codenamed the CMF-B, which was developed jointly by the Nissan-Renault alliance.

On the whole, the new Micra promises to be a big improvement over its predecessor. Just like all the other teasers that we’ve seen from other carmakers before the Paris Motor Show begins, Nissan hasn’t shared any info on the price bracket or launch dates. Our guess is that it’ll replace the current-gen Micra by early next year.
