2017 Land Rover Discovery Spied

Land Rover has been working on the next generation Discovery which is scheduled for its international debut later this year. As the debut date approaches closer spy images of the test mule have surfaced on the internet, showing what is close to a production-spec vehicle in China. The upcoming edition of the Discovery with be the fifth generation and it is expected to be a full revamp of its predecessor.

The spy shots of the test mule reveal most exterior details of the SUV. The overall design of the next-gen SUV is very close to that of the Discovery Vision concept showcased by Land Rover in 2014. The new Discovery will be lighter than the current version as it will be based on the new Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) platform that makes use of bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque structure. Land Rover uses the PLA platform in its other vehicles like the Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport. The current version of the Discovery is built on the strong but heavy T5 ladder chassis.

Under the hood, for the international market, the next-gen Discovery is expected to come with a 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel, and a supercharged V6 petrol powerplant. The SUV will be manufactured at Land Rover’s Solihull plant alongside other models such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

Land Rover will initially introduce the new Discovery in the European market by the end of 2016, while launch in other international markets is expected in 2017. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery will reach Indian shores soon after its international launch.
