KTM India has launched the 2017 Duke range in India with a new addition - the 250 Duke. The 2017 KTM 390 Duke has been priced at Rs 2.25 lakh, the new 250 Duke at Rs 1.73 lakh, and the 200 Duke at Rs 1.43 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). While the bikes carry a new bodywork, they also get updated BS-IV engines and new features as part of the upgraded package. Earlier this year, KTM launched the updated 2017 RC bikes as well which featured similar updates.

The new KTM 390 Duke gets a completely revised bodywork that makes it look larger and sharper in profile. The new design language is inspired by the KTM Super Duke R and carries the flagship bike's edgy profile. The chiselled tank, sharp fuel extensions and petite tail section make the bike look meaner than before. The 390 Duke sports split headlamps which get the full-LED treatment.  It also gets a colour TFT dash - a segment-first. The new 390 Duke will also get an optional MY RIDE multimedia interface that allows the rider to link his smartphone with the motorcycle and the smartphone details are displayed on the TFT screen.

The 373.2cc liquid-cooled motor is BS-IV compliant and develops 44PS, the same as its predecessor. It gets ride-by-wire now. While the 390 Duke does have rider modes, the one sold here might get the software as an aftermarket accessory. Slipper clutch is carried over from the previous 390 Duke. The bike sports a conventional side-mounted muffler as opposed to the underbelly unit seen on the previous model. The new bike sports a larger 13.4 litres fuel tank.

The 2017 KTM 390 Duke gets a new frame that should improve handling. The new bodywork and addition of a conventional exhaust have pushed the weight up by 10kg and the new bike now weighs 149kg. Cycle parts have also been updated. It sports new 43mm WP upside down separate function forks. The suspension travel is now 142mm as opposed to 150mm. Ground clearance has been hiked by 15mm, and now stands at 185mm. Saddle height too has increased to 830mm from 800mm.The new KTM 390 Duke gets a larger 320mm front disc brake sourced from Bybre while dual-channel ABS has been carried forward. The clutch and brake lever are now adjustable. The bike now retails at Rs 2.26 lakh (ex-Delhi), a hike of Rs 30,000 over the previous model.

Another surprise addition was the KTM 250 Duke for the Indian market. The older 250 Duke was exported from India to some international markets, but KTM has changed its strategy for India and have launched the 2017 edition here. The 2017 KTM 250 Duke features the same styling as the new 390 Duke but doesn’t get the LED headlamp. It also misses out on the TFT screen and sports an updated LCD console to keep cost low. Powering the bike is a 250cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine delivering 30PS of power and 24Nm of peak torque. The frame and cycle parts are similar to the new 390 Duke except for the front disc brake which is smaller at 300mm dia, as opposed to the 320mm unit on the 390 Duke. Local manufacturing of the bike has helped keep the cost low and the motorcycle highly competitive in the market. The bike is priced at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Its rivals include the Benelli TNT 25 and the Mahindra Mojo.

The 2017 KTM 200 Duke retains the old body styles with revised graphics. Updates include a BS-IV compliant motor that pushes out 25PS of maximum power at 10000 rpm and a peak torque of 19.2Nm at 8000rpm. The wheels have been given an orange colour to make it look more sporty. Other than these updates, the bike remains the same as the MY 16 edition.
