The Indian-spec KTM 250 Duke might lose some features to get its price closer to the 200 Duke

2017 KTM 250 Duke to be launched in India

Just two days are remaining in the official launch of 2017 KTM Duke range in India, which is scheduled for February 23rd. Earlier, everyone was expecting Bajaj to launch the updated models of both the existing 390 Duke and the 200 Duke. However, some latest reports claim that one of the upcoming models is the 250 Duke, which might replace the 200cc model. If it happens, the Austrian manufacturer might bring a different model than the international version of the 250 Duke to India, which will miss out on some features to keep the price competitive. [Update 23/02/217: The 2017 KTM Duke range has been launched in India. The 2017 KTM 390 Duke has been priced at Rs 2.25 lakh, the 250 Duke at Rs 1.73 lakh and the 200 Duke at Rs 1.43 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). For more details, check out the launch story here.]

Both the 2017 models of the 200cc and the 250cc Dukes look identical and can be distinguished only by their respective monikers on the rear cowl and the fuel tank cladding. If we talk about the international models, the 250 Duke is superior in the terms of features, with sticky Metzeler tyres, slipper clutch and dual-channel ABS. However, the 250 Duke which was spotted in the country recently did not have these advanced features.

KTM 250 Duke could replace 200 Duke in India

Recently, some spy pictures of the Indian-spec 250 Duke surfaced on the internet, confirming that the company will be eliminating premium features from the bike to bring it in a price bracket closer to the 200 Duke. Missing ABS rings on the disc brakes hint that the bike will not get ABS and the tyres on the bike are also from the MRF Revz series instead of the stickier Metzelers. We believe that the bike will miss the slipper clutch as well, and will just give the advantage of better performance as compared to the 200 Duke.

The slightly bigger 250cc motor develops 31PS of power at 9000rpm and 24Nm of torque at 7250rpm. That means the 250 Duke offers around 6PS and 5Nm more as compared to the 200 Duke. As we mentioned above that features of the Indian-spec 250 Duke will be similar to the 200 Duke, the bike will offer 43mm USD front forks, monoshock at the rear, front and rear disc brakes and a fully digital instrument cluster, all of which which are already available on the existing 200cc model.

This is all we have for now -- more details on the same will emerge after the official launch on February 23rd. So, keep visiting this space for the updates.
